ON-GRID SOLAR SYSTEM

In Daytime, Solar panels generate electricity which is either used in the home for fulfilling energy needs or can be sent to the grid if not needed in the home.

This System comes with a special meter called Net meter which keeps track of incoming electricity from the grid and outgoing electricity to grid (Solar panel generation Sent to Grid).

In Nighttime when Solar panels are not generating electricity, the energy needs are fulfilled by energy coming from the grid.

This type of system can curtail a big amount in your electricity bill. Also, it can earn some bucks for your pocket if your electricity needs are less.

Advantages

Disadvantages

  • Direct connection to electrical grid

  • Lower initial installation costs

  • Potential for net metering credits

  • No battery storage required

  • Consistent power supply

  • No power during grid outages

  • Dependent on utility infrastructure

  • Less energy independence

  • Grid electricity pricing fluctuations

  • Urban residential areas

  • Areas with stable electricity infrastructure

  • Lower energy consumption needs

Solar Solutions FAQ

An on-grid solar system is directly connected to the utility power grid. It generates electricity from solar panels and supplies it to your loads first; any excess power is exported to the grid, and any shortage is imported from the grid.

No. An on-grid system requires the grid to function. If there is a power outage, the solar inverter will automatically shut down (anti-islanding protection) for safety.

No. An on-grid system does not provide backup. For backup, you need a hybrid solar system (solar + batteries + grid).

Net metering is a billing arrangement where the electricity exported to the grid is subtracted from the electricity imported from the grid. You are billed only for the “net” usage.

Yes, but priority is given to loads when the sun is shining. If your load demand is higher than solar generation, the balance will come from the grid.

At night or when solar generation is low, the system automatically draws electricity from the grid.

What is an on-grid solar system?

Does an on-grid solar system work without the grid?

Will I get power backup during a power cut?

What is net metering?

Can I run all my appliances on solar power?

What happens at night or on cloudy days?

Savings depend on your system size, consumption pattern, and state’s net metering policy. Many users save 70–90% of their electricity costs.

How much can I save on my electricity bill?

Yes, in many regions, residential consumers are eligible for subsidies under national or state solar programs. Commercial and industrial users usually do not get subsidies but benefit from tax advantages.

Is government subsidy available for on-grid solar?
